Solar plants on factory, warehouse and dealership roofs prevent 31,000 tons of carbon emissions a year.
Neris Holding has completed the first three years of its “Energy from Rooftops” program launched in 2022. The total capacity of solar plants installed on the roofs of factories, warehouses, stores and automotive dealerships reached 38 MW at the end of 2025. This capacity generates about 54 GWh of clean electricity a year and prevents 31,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
How the program works
Each company profiles its facility's consumption and decides on a rooftop investment after an energy efficiency audit. The plants are designed by the engineering team of group company Neris Enerji, while installation and maintenance are contracted to local firms. The electricity produced is used first for the facility's own needs, and any surplus is fed to the grid.
The program in numbers
- 12.6 MW on 214 store roofs
- 9.8 MW at the Gebze spare parts warehouse and Eskişehir factories
- 11.2 MW at 71 automotive dealerships, where part of the energy for vehicle chargers comes directly from the roof
- 4.4 MW at defense facilities
The average payback period is 5.4 years, and the total program cost is USD 28 million.
Storage and smart management
As a pilot, battery storage systems totaling 6 MWh were commissioned at three large facilities. Energy management software uses stored energy during high-price hours, cutting facility costs by a further 9 percent. At dealerships, electric vehicle charging is shifted to hours of surplus generation.
What is next?
The 2026 goal is to expand the program to 60 MW. We are also bringing our supply chain into the program: key suppliers are offered rooftop solar financing on discounted leasing terms. The aim is for 40 suppliers with suitable roof space to build their own plants by 2027.
Details of our sustainability goals and carbon reduction roadmap are available on the Sustainability page.
Employee engagement
The program is treated not only as a technical investment but as a cultural transformation. “Energy ambassadors” have been named at each facility; these volunteers pass consumption data to their teams every month and collect savings ideas. In 2025, 112 of the 340 suggestions from employees were implemented, delivering an additional 3.2 GWh of annual savings.
Verification and reporting
Production and emissions data are verified annually by a third party and published in the integrated annual report. The program is also measured within executives' performance bonuses, tied to its own climate targets.
Operation and safety
Operation and maintenance of the plants are carried out through manufacturers' 25-year performance warranties and the remote monitoring center of group company Neris Enerji. A fire safety assessment is made for each roof, and arc detection and rapid shutdown systems are used on inverters. Dealership and store staff receive emergency training once a year, keeping the daily operating risks of solar systems to a minimum.
